Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Boil the Macaroni

  • Follow the package guidelines to cook the elbow macaroni.
  • Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Cheese Sauce

  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in flour, salt, pepper, ground mustard, and garlic powder until well combined.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring a smooth consistency.
  • Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens.

Add Cheese

  • Reduce heat to low and add shredded cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese.
  • Stir until the cheeses are fully melted and the sauce is velvety.
  • Combine Macaroni and Cheese Sauce
  • Mix the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce, making sure to stir until the macaroni is thoroughly coated with the cheesy goodness.

Bake

  • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

Serve

  • Just before serving allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  • Garnish with additional Parmesan if desired.
