Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups, and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or stand mixer
  • 2 loaf pans
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 cups bread flour

Instructions

  • Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes or until the yeast is activated and becomes foamy.
  • Add salt, vegetable oil, and bread flour to the bowl. Mix all ingredients until the dough is formed.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  • After placing the dough in a greased bowl use a towel to cover it. Let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until the dough doubles in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into two parts. Shape the dough into two loaves and place them in greased loaf pans.
  • Cover the pans with a towel and let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the loaves with water or beaten egg to get a shiny crust.
  • Bake the loaves for 30-35 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
