Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread a thin layer of grease and cover two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper for easy removal.
Cream Butter and Sugar: Use a large mixing bowl, to blend the soft butter and sugar until it's light and fluffy.
Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one by one, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
Alternate Mixing: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
Bake: Pour the batter equally into the pans you've prepared. Place in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center.
Cool and Frost: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Once completely cooled, frost with your favorite buttercream or cream cheese frosting.
