  • Very warm water 1/4 cup
  • Sugar 1/3 cup
  • Butter 1/4 cup
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Boiling milk 1 cup
  • Egg (lightly beaten)
  • Yeast active dry, 1 package
  • Butter melted, 2 tbsp.

Instructions

  • Mix yeast and hot water in a big basin. Dissolve yeast
  • Hot milk dissolves 1/4 cup of butter or margarine, sugar, and salt. Cool mixture to 105–115°F
  • Add yeast to the milk, then egg. To make a soft dough, add 4 cups of flour one at a time. Flour a pastry cloth with the remaining 1/2 cup
  • Lightly knead the dough for 5 minutes. Put the dough in a butter-coated basin
  • The dough has to rise and rest for around 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours in a warm location. Punch and knead the dough for 4–5 minutes on a lightly dusted pastry cloth
  • If the dough is sticky, flour your hands and pastry cloth as little as possible to keep the rolls light
  • Make 1 1/2 to 1 3/4-inch dough rolls. Without touching, place in a buttered 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan
  • Let rolls rise in a warm place for 30 to 40 minutes, until they are twice as big. Rolls should be baked at 375°F for 18 to 20 minutes with margarine or butter on top
  • Serve heated with butter
