Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup warm water

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl. Mix well.
  • In the dry ingredients add the cold, cubed butter. Incorporate butter till the mixture resembles coarse crumbs by using your fingers or a pastry cutter.
  • Now, gently add warm water to bowl, and mix till the soft dough forms. Knead the dough to make it smooth and elastic.
  • Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Now properly line up baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle with a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
  • Now slice the dought to make thin strips of 1/2 inch wide and inches long by using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  • Twist each strip gently to create the classic Taco Bell Cinnamon Twists shape.
  • Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 10-12 minutes until they turn golden brown.
  • While the twists are baking, prepare the cinnamon sugar coating. In a shallow bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  • Remove the twists from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
  • In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully fry the twists in small batches until they become crispy and lightly golden. Drain excess oil by transferring the twist to a paper towel with a slotted spoon.
  • While the twists are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar coating until they are evenly coated.
  • Allow the Taco Bell Cinnamon Twists to cool completely before serving.
