Ingredients

  • 2 cups of corn masa
  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup of achiote oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of water (adjust as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Masa

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine corn masa, coconut milk, achiote oil, and salt.
  • Gradually add water while stirring to achieve a smooth, pliable consistency.

Shape the Guanimos

  • Take a portion of the masa and place it on a piece of parchment paper.
  • Shape it into a rectangle or oval and fold the parchment to encase the masa securely.

Steam the Guanimos

  • If using banana leaves, lay them flat and place the masa-filled parchment on top.
  • Steam the Guanimos for approximately 30-40 minutes or until firm and cooked through.
