Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess grease.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Add the cooked ground beef and onion to the mixing bowl and stir until everything is well combined.
Into a 9x13 inch baking dish pour the mixture.
On top of the beef mixture arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer.
Bake the casserole for 25 minutes.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top by removing the casserole from the oven.
Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
After removing it from the oven let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
