  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

For the coating

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk the ingredients together until well combined.
  • Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and toss to coat. Ensure that each piece is fully submerged. Place a layer of plastic wrap over the bowl and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper to create the coating mixture.
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the coating mixture, pressing firmly to adhere the mixture to the chicken. Shake off any excess coating.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Gently place the chicken pieces coated with the mixture into the hot oil, ensuring the pan isn't overcrowded. Fry in batches if necessary.
  • Fry the chicken for approximately 15 to 18 minutes, turning occasionally, until the coating turns a golden brown and the chicken is thoroughly cooked. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • After cooking, move the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels or a wire rack to allow excess oil to drain.
  • Repeat the frying process with the remaining chicken pieces.
