Preparation: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mixing: In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This can take about 2-3 minutes.
Incorporate Flour and Salt: Gradually add the flour and a pinch of salt to the butter-sugar mixture. Use a wooden spoon or an electric mixer on low speed until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
Roll and Cut: Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to shape your shortbread cookies. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Baking: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges turn a light golden brown. Monitor them carefully, as they can easily become overly browned.
Cooling: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
