Equipment
Medium saucepan
Wooden spoon
Zester or grater
Can opener
Glass jars with lids
Ingredients
12 oz (340g) fresh cranberries
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
1 cup (240ml) water
Zest of 1 orange (optional for added flavor)
Instructions
Rinse the cranberries thoroughly and set them aside.
Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan. Warm the mixture over medium heat, gently stirring from time to time, until the sugar fully dissolves.
Add the cranberries to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Reduce the heat to low and let the cranberries simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Occasionally stir until the cranberries burst and the sauce reaches your preferred thickness.
If using orange zest, grate the zest of one orange and stir it into the sauce during the last few minutes of cooking.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes.
