Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Zester or grater
  • Can opener
  • Glass jars with lids

Ingredients

  • 12 oz (340g) fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240ml) water
  • Zest of 1 orange (optional for added flavor)

Instructions

  • Rinse the cranberries thoroughly and set them aside.
  • Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan. Warm the mixture over medium heat, gently stirring from time to time, until the sugar fully dissolves.
  • Add the cranberries to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the cranberries simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Occasionally stir until the cranberries burst and the sauce reaches your preferred thickness.
  • If using orange zest, grate the zest of one orange and stir it into the sauce during the last few minutes of cooking.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes.
