Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  • Mix the butter until the mixture looks like rough, small pieces.
  • Slowly pour in the milk and stir until a soft dough comes together.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.
  • Cut the dough into small squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.
  • In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a simmer.
  • Drop the dumplings into the simmering broth, stirring gently to prevent sticking.
  • Add the shredded chicken to the pot, continuing to simmer until the dumplings are cooked through and the broth has thickened.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve the Cracker Barrel Dumplings hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
