Oven Baked French Fries

Oven Baked French Fries

When it comes to French fries, nothing beats a Russet potato. Because their skins are thicker and drier than those of other potatoes, they crisp up nicely in the oven, making them ideal for baked fries.

Have you ever baked fries and noticed that they lacked crispiness? Here are two terrific strategies for permanently avoiding that issue!

Ingredients

  • Oversized potatoes: 4
  • Oil, about 2 to 4 tablespoons worth
  • Suggested Seasoning: 1 Tablespoon Seasoned Salt and 1 Tablespoon of lemon pepper.

Instructions

  1. Set the oven to 375°F.
  2. Don’t peel potatoes after washing (you can peel them if you prefer). Cut potatoes into the required size of fries.
  3. Place potatoes in a bowl or sink filled with cold water for at least thirty minutes.
  4. Remove from water and thoroughly dry.
  5. Add oil and seasonings, then toss. Spread on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Twenty-minute bake.
  7. Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees and cook the fries until golden, about 20 to 25 minutes more.

How to Make Oven French Fries Crispy

Similar to how deep-fried French fries are typically double-fried (once at a lower temperature, and once at a higher temperature to a crisp), I’ve found that doing the same thing with oven fries yields excellent results. French fries baked in the oven are delicious and crispy.

Soak the sliced potatoes for at least 30 minutes in cold water. You can see the starch in the bowl once you take them out; this is the starch that makes the French fries crispier.

Dry: This is critical. Ensure they’re thoroughly dried to prevent them from becoming soggy and squishy when baked. I put them through the salad spinner and then dry them off in a dish towel.

SPICE AND OIL: You may prevent them from adhering to the pan and get extra crispiness by brushing them with oil and baking them on parchment paper. Even though they are a healthier alternative to traditional French fries, you’ll need to use a lot of oil to get them crispy.

Baking French fries to perfection is a breeze with the help of the two-temperature cooking method. Just give them a quick cook at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and then crank up the heat for a crispier finish!

How to Cut Potatoes into Fries

Usually, leave the skin on since it provides a little bit of extra fiber (plus I prefer the flavor and it’s easier). In case you like unpeeled potatoes, go ahead and peel them now.

If you want to save time, you can use a French fry cutter instead of cutting the fries by hand. I use a cutter to create uniform fries.

To Prepare Steak Fries

Typically, steak fries are thicker than french fries. To prepare baked steak fries, you will need potatoes that are slightly smaller in size. The steak fries should be sliced into wedges between 3/4 and 1 inch thick.

Use the same cooking method given below, but for a longer amount of time.

Recipe for Baking French Fries

To get the crispiest fries possible from home-made French fries, I use a two-temperature cook:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • After soaking, dry the fries completely before seasoning.
  • Prepare the oven fries with plenty of oil and seasoning. Single layer on parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • 20-minute hold (25 for thicker fries).
  • Raise the temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for another 20 minutes, until the food reaches a crisp consistency.

How Long to Bake French Fries

Keep in mind that thinner fries will cook more quickly, whereas fatter fries will just burn.

French fries fried in the oven take different amounts of time depending on their thickness and, of course, your taste. While the rest of my family like a tender-crisp texture, I want mine extra-crispy.

Reheating French Fries

Oven-baked fries are easy to reheat in either the oven or on the stove.

1. Reheating it on the stove

Put a couple of tea or spoons of oil in a nonstick pan. Reheat for a few minutes over medium heat, and then dig in.

2. Oven reheating

It is an option for previously baked french fries.  Place them on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Put for 5-10 minutes at 400 degrees.

3. Microwaves

This is less desirable as they can get soft or mushy! 20 to 40 seconds should be sufficient.

How to Freeze Oven-Baked French Fries

Oven-baked fries can be frozen for four months. Repeat the above to reheat.

Reheated frozen fries are delicious on their own, but they’re even better when thrown into a pot of soup, stew, or casserole.

Dishes That Go Well With French Fries

Instead of mashed potatoes or bread with our favorite sandwiches and burgers, we’d much rather have fries with the gravy.
